Biography & Career Highlights

Perhaps the most asked about River Rat in the nine seasons of the team's existence, Joel Schaffer is truly a one of a kind individual.  Tall, buff, boyishly attractive, and gregarious to the point of absurdity, Schaff rarely is at a loss for words or compliments.  Joe's baseball pedigree was well-earned, starting out in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he learned the sport from his father and many other legendary amateur players while he worked his way up on the Cavalier baseball teams of the mid-90's.  His mammoth home runs, affinity for tournament frivolity, and passion for the game put him in a class all his own, even if he has run around a field holding a state tournament championship trophy only wearing a pink thong.  Joel's career highlights are too many to list in one site, however, his play for the Rats during the 2002 state championship (on and off the field) come to mind...  Schaff is likely to tell you a story or two about his plays on and off the field after the game at the local watering hole if you have a spare hour or five...
